The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Giver is a fictional story of a future world in which people have developed a way to live without pain, conflict or memories. Although things seem like paradise, the main character finds that something is missing in this new world order: love.
We will use this book to go beyond the idea of a neighborhood or school community to look at how human similarities across time and space create a global community. We will examine universal human conflicts to see how all people are responsible for the well being of the Earth community.
